The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans imposed by the United States on five European individuals involved in fighting digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official has said.

European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe such as the French president charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans targeted figures that were central to efforts to introduce laws regulating US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “This government will not stand for such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
