A spiritual guide and guardian team from a Greater Manchester synagogue have been commended as "saviors" by the National Leader for their actions when the structure came under attack.
A pair of people from the Hebrew congregation were killed and four others were left in serious condition during the violent incident that occurred during prayer ceremonies marking Judaism's holiest day at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation.
The top cop confirmed that worshippers and security staff helped prevent the attacker from entering the building before he was killed by police.
The National Leader stated there was no doubt that emergency services and the temple's protective team "prevented an even greater tragedy".
The assailant was carrying a suspected explosive device, which police have confirmed was inoperable, when he drove a automobile at groups of people before stabbing numerous victims.
A observer at the location said prayers had started when the incident occurred but the spiritual guide, who was conducting the ceremony, remained calm and he and additional people directed the congregation to safety.
The observer stated: "They are genuine champions."
The chief law enforcement officer said there were multiple worshippers inside the temple at the time of the attack.
He applauded guard team and worshippers who shut the perpetrator out, declaring that thanks to the "instant bravery of security staff and the congregation members inside, as well as the fast response of the officers, the perpetrator was prevented from entering".
"All those present were securely held until law enforcement were able to establish that it was secure to leave the facility."
Public Statements
The regional mayor declared: "This evening, our first thoughts are with the families of those persons who lost their lives, those wounded and those distressed by this, a horrific hate crime against Jewish people. We reject it entirely."
"The metropolitan area will never remain passive when one of our communities is targeted."
A significant event was reported at approximately the specified hour after police received a report from a witness who said he had observed a car being steered toward people and a protective officer had been attacked.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack.
Law enforcement said they know the identity of the individual but could not verify it currently.
No verified data has been disclosed on the perpetrator's history, religion or suspected motives.
Eyewitness Reports
A university teacher who was within the synagogue said attendees continued their service after being relocated.
He said the worshippers were moved by officers first into the secondary space of the facility, then to a nearby center, adding he did not fear for his security.
He said "each person was steady and proper" and people "used an aspect of humor" to keep going.
The perpetrator was fatally wounded within brief period of the initial call to police.
A courier, who observed the attack said he observed a male individual outside the temple bearing a weapon.
He said: "Almost immediately, the officers arrived, they gave him a few cautions, he failed to comply so they shot."
The suspect then "began to rise" and they [the police] "fired additional rounds", the observer said - portraying it as "stressful" to witness.
Another bystander, who lives near the synagogue, said when the individual got out of the automobile he "started stabbing anyone near him" after the vehicle impacted the synagogue gates.
After the attack, officers said a audible blast could be heard as "trained personnel gained entry the perpetrator's automobile as a protective step".
National Response
The National Leader announced: "The United Kingdom is also a nation where Jewish buildings, worship centers, even learning centers require round the clock protection, where targeted safety protocols is required because of the ongoing risk of religious prejudice."
"This day's awful occurrence demonstrates the reason. And while this is not a fresh discrimination, this is something Jewish people have continually faced, we must be certain, it is a hatred that is growing afresh, and Britain must defeat it once again."
The National Leader declared: "To every Jewish person in this country, I also want to express this. I understand how much fear you will be holding inside of you. I sincerely do."
