The Gangster Drama Set to Come Back with a Fresh Chapter on the Small Screen

Peaky Blinders cast in dramatic scene
Paul Anderson and Cillian Murphy portrayed the Shelby brothers in the first era of the series

The hit crime drama is returning to television to chronicle the endeavors of a new generation of the Shelby family post WWII.

The final broadcast season, which was shown in recently, was promoted as the "end of an epic story", even though creators noted the plot would "continue in another form".

A forthcoming Peaky Blinders film, beginning during the war, will include Cillian Murphy returning to his part as crime boss the central character.

That film will then lead into two new TV seasons, which "will take place in Birmingham and will narrate the story of a city rebuilding of the Birmingham blitz", writer Steven Knight stated. "The younger Shelbys of Shelbys have assumed control and it will be a hell of a ride."

What to Expect

The drama will pick up in the post-war era, when "the competition for the major urban renewal becomes a fierce battle of mythical dimension", as revealed.

"It is a urban environment of unmatched potential and peril: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart."

The series will be broadcast on the BBC in the UK and on a streaming service internationally.

Cillian Murphy will be one of the executive producers, although it was not revealed whether familiar faces from the original run would reappear.

Peaky Blinders premiered in 2013, and has so far followed the underworld group through the interwar period. It won outstanding drama at the prestigious awards in a few years ago.

The story will move to the World War II era for the film, called The Immortal Man, which will star the lead actor with award contender Barry Keoghan, Adolescence actor Stephen Graham and the sci-fi star Rebecca Ferguson.

Additional Updates

  • The show will go further than the feature, as stated by the creator
